- Punitive Damages -
The trend throughout the Courts in this country has been to reduce punitive damages. They are designed to punish a wrongdoer, to deter future wrongful conduct. The Courts are generally comfortable with a justified award of punitive damages, that does not exceed 10 times the compensatory award. Punitive damages are to be reserved for only cases in which the defendant acted with an “evil mind” to cause injury.
